Unicorn Pattern

The inspiration for this project came from my interest in medieval history. When I got the assignment in school to create patterns that could be used for children’s products, I wanted to draw from art history, specially tapestries like The Unicorn Rests in a Garden, and use colors appealing to modern children. I created the palette using bright pinks, yellows, and blues that would appeal to small children, and set them on a black background so that it gave it a mature elegance that might still appeal to a slightly older child.

I illustrated assets to create a repeating pattern that could be used as child’s room decor and/or child’s fashion fabric. I created two variations of the repeating patterns, the first with bedsheets or child’s pajamas in mind, and the second pattern for wall paper or furniture decorations. The other images use the assets I made for the patterns and created to use on pillow cases, bedspreads, wall art, or pajama tops. Mock-up examples below.
